Overview

In EDT 511, I learned how to turn the classroom into an interactive learning environment by infusing technology into education. I became familiar with computer-based technologies and applied them to create classroom activities. I took my basic computer skills, enhanced significantly through the introduction, discussion, observation, and direct application of various software programs and technology tools to develop appropriate and engaging lessons.

The first assignment involved using Inspiration software to create an educational diagram. Inspiration makes it easy to produce graphic organizers, which enhance visual learning to improve student learning and performance. In the PowerPoint Jeopardy project, I created a science game for a second grade class, the goal being to produce learning material which is not only fun, but motivating.

Perhaps one of my favorite projects was creating a Classroom Website using Weebly. Creating hyperlinks, choosing an appropriate design, and adding images, graphics, animations, and content appropriate to elementary education was challenging, yet fun. The Instructional WebQuest assignment changed my way of thinking and planning lessons, as I provided specific links for students to follow in order to complete the assignment.  Students are able to focus on the information given, rather than search for information on the Web.

For the Classroom Wiki project, I used Wikispaces to create a website for students to experience collaborative writing and learning. Developing a Classroom Blog using Blogger was a great way to interact with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators, as thoughts are shared and feedback welcomed.

In the Podcasting project, I created and distributed an audio file on Internet using Audacity to help students study for spelling tests. Combining narration and audio in a project and learning how to edit the material to produce an appropriate, audible, error-free podcast was exciting.

For the Digital Video Editing project, I used Sony Vegas to create an educational video. The Digital Video Editing project was perhaps one of the most challenging projects, as video slides had to match music and narration-timing being crucial.

The creation of an electronic portfolio using Adobe Dreamweaver made me realize just how much I have learned in EDT 511-from basic computer skills to producing educational material and publishing works on the Internet, a proud accomplishment.
