NETS-T: General Preparation Performance Profile
In the following section I examined the
ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for General Preparation Performance Profile and provided narrative on how I met the specific performance profile. They are listed below.

1. demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature an operation of technology systems. (I)*

Proficient in web navigation, following links, creating hyperlinks, integrating text, pictures, sound, animations, and videos in presentations and communications. The following projects serve as evidence for meeting this standard: Educational Diagram, Jeopardy PowerPoint, Classroom Website, Instructional WebQuest, Classroom Wiki, Classroom Blog, Educational Podcasting, Digital Video Editing, and Electronic Portfolio.

2. demonstrate proficiency in the use of common input and output devices; solve routine hardware and software problems; and make informed choices about technology systems, resources, and services. (I)*

Proficient in using the mouse, keyboard, scanner, camera, microphone, monitor, printer, and flash drive. Proficient in locating appropriate web resources for students to access, such as providing educational links for students to complete WebQuests.

3. use technology tools and information resources to increase productivity, promote creativity, and facilitate academic learning. (I, III, IV, V)

Used Microsoft PowerPoint to create Science Jeopardy as a study tool for quizzes and tests. Created an educational diagram on the three states of matter and their properties to promote visual learning. Designed WebQuests for students to trigger critical thinking skills.

4. use content-specific tools (e.g., software, simulation, environmental probes, graphing calculators, exploratory environments, Web tools) to support learning and research. (I, III, V)*

Designed WebQuests for students, providing them with links to complete assignments. Used Inspiration software to create an educational diagram on the states of matter. Used Microsoft PowerPoint to make Science Jeopardy. Designed a Classroom Website, WebQuests, and Electronic portfolio using Weebly software, a Classroom Blog using Blogger, a Classroom Wiki using Wikispaces, a Podcast using Audacity, and a Digital Video using Sony Vegas.

5. use technology resources to facilitate higher order and complex thinking skills, including problem solving, critical thinking, informed decision making, knowledge construction, and creativity. (I, III, V)*

Developed five different WebQuests with hyperlinks to promote use of critical thinking and problem solving skills.

6. collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, preparing publications, and producing other creative works using productivity tools. (I, V)*

Collaborated with classmates and instructor on projects through discussion on the VLT and in class, answering questions and providing feedback.

7. use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. (I, IV, V)*

Searched the Internet to find appropriate resources for students to use in WebQuests. Downloaded discussion material on the VLT. Used the Internet to find appropriate pictures, animations, videos, music, and links to complete projects.

8. use technology tools to process data and report results. (I, III, IV, V)*

Prior knowledge of Microsoft Excel used to record grades for a long-term teaching assignment. Uploaded assignments on the VLT.  Posted class projects on the VLT discussion board. Published projects. Uploaded projects on the Web.

9. use technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world. (I, III, V)*

Utilized the Classroom Wiki to discuss issues relating to accepting differences in others; provided a video from the Web related to this topic.

10. observe and experience the use of technology in their major field of study. (III, V)

All of my EDT 511 projects were created to produce an interactive learning environment in my present position at Miller Elementary School. My projects were designed for a second grade class that I teach quite often. In addition, I use the Promethean Interactive White Board in many of the classes I teach.

11. use technology tools and resources for managing and communicating information (e.g., finances, schedules, addresses, purchases, correspondence). (I, V)

The classroom calendar on my Classroom Website, as well as the FYI page on my Classroom Wiki, list important dates and information for students and parents. Using the VLT to post questions, download assignments, and check grades has been an effective way to communicate with other students and the instructor.

12. evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on their appropriateness to specific tasks. (I, III, IV, V)*

In our WebQuest assignment, I had to choose appropriate sites for children to visit in order for them to complete their assignments. It was also important to choose appropriate use of text, pictures, music, sound, and videos for each project.

13. use a variety of media and formats, including telecommunications, to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences. (I, V)*

Interacted with EDT 511 students and the instructor using the VLT discussion board; published projects on the VLT for the instructor to grade, as well as for other students to view.

14. demonstrate an understanding of the legal, ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology. (VI)*

Became familiar with copyright laws regarding materials used for educational purposes by reading, reviewing and referring to the Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines for Teachers for general knowledge and for adherence to such laws as projects were completed (example: music/sound for podcast).

15. exhibit positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity. (V, VI)*

From the first project up until now, I have been excited about bringing technology into the classroom and using technology in ways to motivate students and actively engage students, allowing them to become part of the process-taking ownership of their own learning. Each week I have enthusiastically shared what I have learned and the projects I have created with students and teachers at Miller Elementary School. In fact, the media specialist is planning on taking this course after seeing how rewarding it has been for me and seeing its value in reaching today's students more effectively.

16. discuss diversity issues related to electronic media. (I, VI)

In class, Professor Duran continually discussed the importance of choosing text, pictures, music, etc. which is not offensive in nature.

17. discuss the health and safety issues related to technology use. (VI)

In our classroom discussions, we talked about promoting the safe use of technology - keeping children safe online. We talked about how important it is for parents to limit and monitor the use of the Internet by their children to keep children from interacting online with strangers - strangers who may be harmful.

Numbers in parentheses following each performance indicator refer to the standards category to which the performance is linked. The categories are:

1. Technology operations and concepts
